PM: Threats against Georgian people are unacceptable and regrettable
“Yesterday, in the Polish Parliament, we heard threats against the Georgian people, which reflect poorly on the image of the European bureaucracy in Georgia. I hope this attitude will change,” the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
“It is unacceptable for the Georgian people to be threatened simply because some do not agree with their democratic choice,” he added.
He emphasized that Georgians had clearly expressed their support for the country’s development, peace, and European integration.
“Whether some like it or not, that choice must be respected. Such threats are nothing more than blackmail, aimed at influencing the country’s development. For years, the Georgian people have shown they are not swayed by such pressure. These threats are regrettable,” he added.
The PM’s remarks follow comments by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who, during a confidence debate in the Sejm, suggested suspending visa-free travel for several countries, including Georgia.
