PM sees no rationale in engaging with Euronest since radical opposition was present there under guise of NGO
“The fact is that representatives of the radical opposition were invited to Euronest under the guise of an NGO,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in China.
According to the Prime Minister, the participation of the Georgian delegation in such a situation was entirely unjustified.
“There is also an approach rooted in the European bureaucracy, and once again, we can only express regret about all this. Naturally, under such a regime, establishing constructive relations with specific officials from the European Union is extremely challenging,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
For context, the Chairman of the European Integration Committee of Georgia’s Parliament, Levan Makashvili, addressed the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in an open letter, noting that the Georgian Parliament’s delegation had refrained from participating in the 12th plenary session in Yerevan due to the recent actions by the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
On October 31, the Parliamentary Assembly of Euronest published a resolution, pointing out democratic backsliding in Georgia.
On November 1, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced that “due to hostile approaches from forces in the European Parliament, Georgia’s standing parliamentary delegation will not participate in subsequent Euronest sessions”.
