PM says strong economic policy, low taxes and low corruption help Georgia be pillar of Middle Corridor
“We are a small country, but we have a very strategic location. We are already quite successfully taking advantage of our strategic location. We have a very ambitious plan to further strengthen our connectivity capacity,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a panel discussion held within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the main topic of which was “The Middle Corridor – Connecting Europe and Asia through Energy”.
According to the Head of Government, the role of the Middle Corridor has grown tremendously.
“Historically, Georgia was connecting Europe with Asia, East with the West. We are a small country, but we have a very strategic location, and we are already quite successfully taking advantage of our strategic location. We have a very ambitious plan to further strengthen our connectivity capacity, to further strengthen our transit capacity, and we are investing a lot in the infrastructure, we are investing a lot in the highways.
By 2030, all the highway routes will be completed and constructed in Georgia. We’re investing in railway infrastructure and modernising the railway. We are also investing in the seaports. We are going to build a new Black Sea port in Anaklia, which is a place in Georgia.
We are also investing in the airport infrastructure. We are going to essentially transform the country to strengthen its connectivity and present potential. It makes us optimistic that the country will reach development in a medium-term perspective,” Irakli Kobakhidze added.
According to the Prime Minister, Georgia has free trade agreements with multiple countries.
“We have the highest number of free trade agreements in the region. We have free trade agreements with the European Union, DCFTA countries, CIS countries, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, which create special opportunities for us to connect different countries economically and in terms of trade with each other.
We have a very liberal economic policy, with very low tax rates, and low level of corruption. All these benefits create a very good opportunity for Georgia to serve as a very important pillar in the Middle Corridor project.
We are optimistic. We are doing our best to strengthen our capacity. That’s why we can be really optimistic about our country’s development in this respect,” the Prime Minister stated.
