PM says Georgia not to admit smuggling sanctioned goods
“Georgia did not impose economic sanctions against Russia, considering the national interests. However, the country will not admit smuggling sanctioned goods through its territory,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the parliament, reporting to the MPs in interpellation format.
According to the PM, no allegation made by the opposition or Ukraine has yet been confirmed. “These were slanderous, groundless accusations,” he said.
Georgian legislation, Garibashvili said, complies fully with international law and regulations relating to money laundering, sanctions evasion, military cargo control, and financing terrorism. “Any product placed on the sanction list is subject to a strict customs control,” PM said.
Irakli Garibashvili said since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, Georgia has continuously expressed solidarity with Ukraine with political and diplomatic steps both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
“Our government has already allocated USD 7 million to help the Ukrainian people, including Ukrainians who arrived in Georgia, and sent up to 1,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine,” Garibashvili said.
