PM: Restoring relations with Georgia is in EU’s interest; failure exposes bureaucratic inability to act sovereignly
“Objectively, it is in the interests of the European Union to restore healthy relations with Georgia. When it fails to do so, we can draw a logical conclusion: the European bureaucracy cannot act sovereignly or in accordance with the genuine interests of the European Union and its member states,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Imedi LIVE.
According to him, there is no other justification or explanation for such an attitude, especially in the face of pervasive double standards.
“We have compared our country to Moldova, certain neighbouring nations, and Central Asian countries. It is utterly absurd. A recent meeting on connectivity and transit involved seven countries, yet Georgia was the only nation out of eight that did not participate. Georgia is the only country with access to the sea that provides the other seven countries with access to maritime routes. The European bureaucracy has reached such an absurd point. They cannot act sovereignly or in line with the true interests of the European community. Otherwise, the EU would be endeavouring to restore genuine relations with Georgia.
Saying that Ukraine and Moldova have eliminated corruption and are fully committed to protecting human rights is quite ironic. Everyone is well aware of the realities, yet we continue to see the double standards often employed by European bureaucracy,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
