PM: President of Georgia, born and raised in emigration, returned to Georgia

President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, born and raised in the emigration, returned to Georgia, said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during the online forum “Strong Diaspora for United Georgia” dedicated to the Diaspora Day.

According to the PM, the role of Diaspora has always been outstanding in development of the country. He said that Georgia had to have strong Diasporas across the world that would mean strong Georgia.

“We have made a number of legislative changes during this period. For the first time in the history of Georgian constitutionalism, we made a special inscription in our constitution, by which the state takes responsibility for maintaining and developing the ties of compatriots living abroad with the homeland. We also removed the ban on dual citizenship from the constitution, which was a barrier for our Diaspora,” Irakli Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili claimed that the government would care to establish strong Diaspora centers in more than 50 countries and that the Georgian Patriarchate representations would be unifiers of Georgians living abroad.
