PM: Moldova's media freedom has been eroded for years; only two state broadcasters remain; attacks on Georgian media are no surprise

“Media freedom in Moldova has been eroded for a long time; only two television stations remain as part of the public broadcasting service —Moldova 1 and Moldova 2,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, given these circumstances, it is no surprise that Moldova is now targeting Georgian independent media as well.

“Media freedom in Moldova has been trampled underfoot for quite some time; only two state television stations are still operational — Moldova-1 and Moldova-2. This reflects the overall situation. Interestingly, Moldova isn’t criticised for this. Against this backdrop, with only two government-controlled broadcasters remaining, it is entirely predictable that Moldova would also attack free media in Georgia. They have restricted independent media within Moldova, and now they are targeting free media in Georgia. This is a logical chain of events,” he stated.
