PM: Mikheil Kavelashvili's presidency to enhance statehood, sovereignty, reduce radicalism, polarization
“Mikheil Kavelashvili’s election on this most important position will significantly contribute to the enhancement of Georgia’s statehood and sovereignty and reduction of radicalism and so-called polarization in the country,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the briefing in the Government Administration.
According to the PM, during Kavelashvili’s presidential term, the president’s institute will regain its constitutional mission.
The PM congratulated Mikheil Kavelashvili on the election as president of Georgia.
“For over 20 years, Georgia has lacked a patriot and mentally and psychologically balanced president. In this regard, Mikheil Kavelashvili’s presidency will be a turning point for our country. The chief mission of the Presidential Institute is to care for the unification of the country and society.
During these years, certain forces, and foreign actors utilized the president’s institute to split society, to artificially weaken the constitutional order, systemic violation of the Constitution that was directly backed from outside.
Under the presidency of Mikheil Kavelashvili, the presidential institute will regain its constitutional mission and dignity. I would like to wish success to Mikheil Kavelashvili in his position as the President of Georgia,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
At the sitting of the Central Election Commission (CEC), The Electoral Assembly elected Mikheil Kavelashvili as Georgia’s Sixth President with a term of five years through non-direct rule for the first time on December 14.
The inauguration of the new president will take place on December 29.
A protest rally is going on at the Georgian parliament in parallel to the presidential elections. The protesters say that the presidential elections is illegitimate, since the parliament is illegitimate.
