“There were specific excesses that cast a shadow over our manner of conduct during the events of November and December 2024. Our goal is to leave no violations unpunished,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a journalist’s question at a briefing held at the Government Administration.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the government must respond with both firmness and humanity, regardless of whether attempts to overthrow it are violent or of any other kind.

In response to a question about the closure of proceedings in the relevant case, the Head of Government stated that the decision lies with the appropriate authority and that there may be a legal basis for it.

“As regards the closing of proceedings, the appropriate body takes the decision, and there may be a legal basis for that. In this particular instance, the closing of a hearing may have a very specific basis: it is a sensitive matter, concerning law enforcement agencies, and a legal basis may well exist.

We have a clear objective: to follow every case through to the fullest extent possible. A great deal has changed over recent months, including with respect to law enforcement. You will have seen that on October 4, the Ministry of Internal Affairs acted to an even higher standard, even though there was a very open and brazen attempt to overthrow the government.

The Ministry managed to confront that attempted coup without any excesses or incidents whatsoever. We have our own way of doing things, and we must protect it. There were specific excesses that cast a shadow over that manner of conduct during the events of November and December 2024. Our goal is to leave no violations unpunished, and concrete steps have been taken in that regard over the past month alone. Prevention, likewise, is of the utmost importance. We shall do everything in our power to uphold our manner of conduct to the very end, whatever attempts at overthrowing the government may come, whether violent or of any other kind. We must confront any such attempt with our clean, humane manner of conduct,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
