PM Kobakhidze warns of "liberal fascism" fueled by foreign funding

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a press conference today that one of the most unfortunate developments in Georgia is the spread of “liberal fascism” through foreign financing.

He asserted that the hysteria surrounding the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence was deliberately orchestrated by specific individuals who aimed to create a “Maidan” in Georgia using liberal-fascist ideology and foreign “black money.”

“The hysteria against the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence was intended to promote a ‘Maidan,’ encourage revolutionary processes in the country, and further disseminate liberal fascism in Georgia,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister recalled initiatives such as “Canvas training,” the “Franklin Club,” and the “Future Academy,” emphasizing that these programs sought to involve representatives from the arts and culture sectors, as well as students and schoolchildren, in revolutionary activities, thereby sowing hatred and aggression through foreign financing.

“Remember the Canvas training? They primarily targeted professionals in the arts and culture. When we previously warned about the goal of these trainings to engage artists in revolutionary processes, we were met with irony. However, within a week, we witnessed cultural figures being put at the forefront during attempts to organize this revolution.

Let me remind you of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s 10-minute video, where he specifically addresses theatres and their involvement in such processes that sow hatred and aggression. We noticed that this method was particularly activated in our country. If you recall the structure of Canvas training, the underlying objectives become very clear. Involving artists in the organization of a ‘Maidan’ was one of the primary goals of foreign funding.

NGOs were also utilized to promote this ideology. Remember the ‘Franklin Club’? They engaged young people, schoolchildren, and students in spreading this ideology and preparing for revolutionary activities. Foreign money was directly involved. Recall the so-called ‘Future Academy’? Foreign funds were allocated there to involve schoolchildren and students in revolutionary processes, fostering hatred and aggression. What is especially unfortunate is that certain public and private universities were directly implicated in the dissemination of this ideology.

The main weapons of liberal fascism are lies, complete intolerance of differing opinions—which we have witnessed repeatedly—and the instigation of societal hatred. We must break this closed circle; otherwise, the consistent and comprehensive development of our country will be impossible,” Kobakhidze concluded.
