PM Kobakhidze: Radical opposition lacks resources for radicalization or elections

“The radical opposition is bereft of resources, incapable of radicalization or electoral participation. Their own masters have led them to this despairing point,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, despite all the organization and advertising efforts, only 3,000 people gathered on Rustaveli Avenue. Meanwhile, former President Salome Zourabishvili paid homage to Aleko Elisashvili (a member of the Strong Georgia coalition) instead of participating in the traditional Independence Day event.

The head of the government emphasized, “Yesterday once again demonstrated that the radical opposition is completely disintegrated,” and noted that it was difficult for the opposition to say anything valuable in front of 3,000 people.

“Against the backdrop of such a turnout, the opposition struggled to say anything meaningful. It seemed they still hoped for a larger crowd, which might have made Zourabichvili’s speech appear more eloquent. But with only 3,000 attendees, it was difficult for her to deliver anything substantial.”

The Prime Minister stated that the demands from the opposition are no longer viable given that they are unorganized and “they were defeated last year.”

“When they speak of early parliamentary elections, in truth, they do not desire these elections because they know they are utterly doomed. They are already openly acknowledging this. They are no longer even attempting to organize them. Their previous demands, rooted in the hope of achieving a victory even more crushing than the defeat they suffered last October, have now faded,” the Prime Minister went on to say it hardly matters “whether the radical opposition chooses to participate in the elections or not.”

“Full-fledged local self-government elections will be held in Georgia, and these elections will be even more legitimate and meaningful if the radical opposition abstains from taking part,” Irakli Kobakhidze affirmed.
