Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, met the Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng.

According to the Government of Georgia, the Prime Minister thanked the Mayor for hosting the Georgian delegation and underlined the special significance of Georgia’s participation as a Guest of Honour at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The meeting highlighted the friendly relations between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China, as well as the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The Prime Minister of Georgia once again expressed gratitude to the Mayor of Shanghai for his warm hospitality.

“Shanghai is one of the best examples of China’s progress and modernisation. It is truly impressive to see how China continues to develop across different sectors. We attach great importance to strengthening cooperation with China. The signing of the strategic partnership agreement between our countries has taken our relations to an entirely new level.

For us, it is important to achieve tangible and practical results in our bilateral relations. Participation in the International Import Expo is particularly meaningful, as alongside political cooperation, we place special emphasis on strengthening economic ties. I am pleased that Georgia and China enjoy intensive trade and economic relations,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Mayor of Shanghai also focused on the friendly relations between China and Georgia.

“I am delighted to host you in Shanghai during the International Import Expo, in which Georgia is participating as a Guest of Honour. China and Georgia have always been good friends and partners. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, our two countries have always shown mutual respect and trust. As a result, our strategic partnership has reached a very positive stage of development. As President Xi Jinping remarked in his congratulatory letter to President Kavelashvili, China is prepared to continue working with Georgia to develop our longstanding friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation. He also expressed readiness to promote the deepening of China-Georgia relations for the benefit of both our peoples.

China has always placed great importance on its friendly relations with Georgia. A clear example of this is the twinning of Shanghai and Tbilisi, which will enable us to develop mutually beneficial and pragmatic cooperation further,” stated Gong Zheng.

The Government Administration further noted that the meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili, Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, President of the Central Bank of Georgia Natia Turnava and Head of Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.
