PM Kobakhidze: Georgia free of foreign agents is our slogan; we are dismantling foreign assets in domestic politics
“Georgia free of foreign agents”—that is our slogan, and we are dismantling foreign influence networks within Georgian politics,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists today, insisting there can be no place for foreign assets in the country’s democratic framework.
The head of government emphasised that political parties must exist in Georgia, but every single one must serve the nation and its people.
“A genuine opposition will only emerge if the Constitutional Court grants this lawsuit. As it stands, there is no real opposition in Georgia today. We refer to these political entities as the opposition, or the radical opposition, but the underlying reality is that Georgia currently lacks a legitimate opposition; there are only foreign networks operating here.
‘Georgia free of foreign agents’—that is our slogan. We are dismantling foreign influence networks in Georgian politics. Within our democratic system and political landscape, there is no room for foreign assets. Political parties must exist, whether as the ruling party or the opposition, but every single one must be a political entity dedicated to serving its own country and citizens.
There is simply no place for foreign agents in our democratic system. This unconstitutional bloc of five is, in reality, a single entity: the party of foreign interests. If anything is to be banned as a result of these proceedings, it is precisely this foreign influence network,” Kobakhidze declared.
