“Over the past five years, the gap between the economies of Georgia and Moldova has widened by 13.5 billion US dollars, meaning the disparity between our national budgets has increased by 3.5 billion US dollars,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced during his annual report to Parliament.

As Kobakhidze noted, despite Moldova being expected to bow down for the loans received over the years, this financial aid has failed to improve its economic performance.

“We frequently compare our economy to that of Moldova, which is also an EU candidate country. I must tell you that the gap between the economies of Georgia and Moldova has widened by 13.5 billion US dollars over the past five years. This means the difference between our national budgets has increased by 3.5 billion US dollars.

We all know that Moldova is being made to feel indebted for the loans provided to it over recent years. Yet, even these loans have not helped Moldova improve its economic indicators. Over these five years, we have outpaced Moldova by 13.5 billion dollars in economic scale and by 3.5 billion dollars in terms of national budgets, which speaks volumes in its own right,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
