PM Kobakhidze announces USD 70 million investment at Kaspi cement plant, boosting annual production by 400,000 tons to 2 million tons

“Hunnewell Cement and the Kaspi cement plant are entering a new stage of development. The implementation of a project with a value of USD 70 million is beginning, which will lay the foundation for a completely new, modern technological line for cement production,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, while speaking at the presentation of the new investment project with an injection of USD 70 million at the Kaspi plant.

According to the Head of Government, Hunnewell Cement is the only company in the country capable of producing cement through a full production cycle.

“I am pleased that today, Hunnewell Cement and the Kaspi cement plant are entering a new stage of development. The USD 70 million project is set to commence, establishing the foundation for an entirely new, modern technological line in cement production. This is a continuation of the tradition that began in 1926 with the construction of the first plant in Kaspi. This century-long history of Georgian cement production is an inseparable part of our country’s industrial development.

Hunnewell Cement is the only company in the country capable of producing this product through a full production cycle. This new large-scale project will deliver unprecedented growth in our country’s production capacity. Annual output is set to rise by 400,000 tonnes, ultimately reaching a total of 2 million tonnes.

This means that Georgia will become fully self-sufficient in this regard; we will be able to supply the largest infrastructure and development projects with our own resources, without dependence on imports.

The main orientation of our work is precisely strengthening the country’s economic independence, qualitatively reducing dependence on imports and supplying the local market with products of the highest quality.

Naturally, environmental protection is also a priority for us. Therefore, it is welcomed that the plant will be equipped in accordance with the latest environmental standards, thereby minimising environmental impact and adopting modern, eco-friendly production principles.

I would like to thank everyone involved in supporting this state-oriented vision and implementing such an important project – engineers, construction specialists, technical personnel and our partners: the Georgia Co-Investment Fund, Hunnewell Partners and GIG Holding. I wish everyone success,” stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.
