PM Irakli Kobakhidze presents new Head of SSSG Tamaz Borashvili to agency personnel

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has formally introduced the newly appointed Head of the State Security Service, Tamaz Borashvili, to the agency’s staff.

Addressing the officers, the Head of Government thanked SSSG personnel for their honourable service and highlighted Tamaz Borashvili’s institutional experience. The Prime Minister also wished success to outgoing SSSG Head Geka Geladze, who has been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

“The State Security Service stands as one of the paramount pillars safeguarding the core interests of our state and our national security. Each of your contributions is truly extraordinary. Thank you again for your honourable service. I wish to express my profound gratitude to Mr Geka Geladze for his dedicated service and his dignified stewardship of the State Security Service.

I must highlight Geladze’s personal qualities. He is an outstanding professional, but above all a person of exceptional integrity. I wish him every success in his future endeavours.
Tamaz Borashvili is a career veteran of this system, which is very significant. When one serves this cause for over 20 years, an extraordinary store of knowledge and experience is accumulated; assets that will prove immensely valuable in helping the government further reinforce this institution. Every institution must continuously evolve, and the State Security Service is no exception. He brings a rich breadth of experience and a consistent record of advancement throughout his career; such steady progression does not happen without merit, distinguished qualities, and rigorous professionalism. It was precisely these attributes that formed the foundation for the team’s decision,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.

The outgoing chief wished his successor every success and thanked the Prime Minister for the trust and support throughout his tenure.

“Mr Prime Minister, thank you deeply for the support and confidence you have shown me over recent years; support that translated directly into our daily operations. Our structural and substantive achievements, as well as the bolstering of our security architecture, are a direct result of that trust.
I wish to congratulate Mr Tamaz Borashvili on his appointment. As you know, this institution is a unique family with its own distinct way of life and culture, and Mr Tamaz originates from its very core. Having served here for many years, I am confident he will lead with distinction and further strengthen the agency. It was a profound honour to work alongside you, and a matter of great pride to have led such a formidable institution,” stated Geka Geladze.

Tamaz Borashvili expressed his gratitude to the Head of Government and Parliament for the confidence placed in him.

“I pledge that, with redoubled vigor alongside this strong team, we will spare no effort to safeguard our country’s security and fortify our agency, ensuring we meet the daily challenges facing our nation with greater efficacy. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our personnel. I know everyone in this room well. For many years, we have shared the honour of protecting our nation’s security. Thank you to our entire staff for your tireless, around-the-clock dedication to our nation’s well-being. My thanks also to Mr Geka for his distinguished service; I wish him every success in his new undertakings,” Borashvili noted.

Georgian Parliament today confirmed Tamaz Borashvili as State Security Service chief with 83 votes in favour.
