PM Irakli Kobakhidze: Poverty rate for 2025 falls to 7.1%, signifying 90,000 Georgians have overcome poverty
“Today, the National Statistics Office of Georgia announced that the poverty rate for 2025 has fallen to 7.1 per cent. This means that, in 2025, with an economic growth of 7.5 per cent, 90,000 of our fellow citizens have risen above the poverty line,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at today’s press conference.
As the Head of Government highlighted, poverty in Georgia has been reduced threefold since 2020, from 21.3 per cent to 7.1 per cent.
“Over these five years, the average annual decline in poverty has been 2.84 percentage points.
Let me remind you that in 2012, more than 1,120,000 of our fellow citizens were living below the poverty line, and by 2025, this number will have decreased to under 280,000.
One of our most vital national objectives remains the complete eradication of poverty in Georgia. As long as up to 280,000 of our fellow citizens still live below the poverty line, we cannot afford to become complacent,” emphasised the Prime Minister.
