PM: If businesses act with high social responsibility, coordinate with government on price reduction, results can be achieved

“Any business is oriented on maximal profit, and harsh interference is unacceptable. However, we believe that if businesses act with high social responsibility, coordinate with the government on price reduction, results can be achieved,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in the Open Air programme.

The PM noted that several business representatives released statements regarding the identification of basic products from the social basket and the reduction of prices on them, which is good. The PM expressed hope that this process would continue.

“The objective is not easy since it has to do with business that is free and acts in accordance with its strategy. Any business is oriented towards maximum profit and harsh interference is unacceptable. Market relations can be completely destroyed under conditions of gross interference. That is why this issue is sensitive, and naturally, we have never considered gross interference in market relations.

However, we believe that if business acts with high social responsibility coordinates with the government on price reduction, results can be achieved.

Several business representatives released statements regarding the identification of basic products from the social basket and the reduction of prices on the products from that basket. This is good for the beginning. We hope that this process will continue and we will have tangible results. The issue is complex, but if there is coordinated work and high social responsibility, the result is achievable,” he said.
