Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili held a farewell meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, Li Yang.
Talks focused on cooperation between Georgia and China in various fields, with a special focus on trade, economic and investment relations. The sides highlighted the significant progress made in recent years and the prospect of deepening relations.
According to the head of government, China is in the top five trade partners of Georgia and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China promotes trade growth, which was reflected in the trade turnover between Georgia and China in 2021, namely – by 25% compared to last year and 1480.5 million. USD.
The PM expressed hope that the next, annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Georgia and China will be held in the near future.
The Chinese diplomat, in turn, stressed the importance of further strengthening existing relations, including investment cooperation, in the promising Georgian market. Growing dynamics in the field of tourism was also noted, which is facilitated by direct flights between Georgia and China.
Georgian PM once again thanked the Chinese Government for its assistance in the process of obtaining Covid-19 vaccines, as well as its continued support in both technological and grant project areas, and wished the Ambassador success.
Chinese Ambassador reaffirmed China’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
