PM: Georgian people elected their government, no matter whether someone may not like it

“I am convinced that Robin Dunnigan very much wanted to participate in the May 26 event, but she was not given this opportunity, precisely due to the influence of the ‘deep state,'” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, congratulations were issued from the State Department without an addressee, which is an incorrect approach and indicates the influence of the “deep state.”

“Our state is governed by the people-elected government, and this division is not only artificial and unjust but is insulting to the Georgian people. The Georgian people chose the government – this is what happened on October 26 last year, when more than 1,120,000 people supported the government that works today. Someone may like this or not like this, but this is none of their business – this is the Georgian people’s choice, and the Georgian people’s choice regarding the government is precisely the Georgian people’s business.

As for congratulations, congratulations from the United States, and its State Department were issued without an addressee. The ambassador also did not attend the event. The excuse was that she was not in Tbilisi, and then they publicly announced that she was not in Georgia either. Of course, this is an incorrect approach.

We see that a struggle is ongoing in the USA between the Trump administration and the ‘deep state.’ In this case, it clearly emerged that the ‘deep state’ had a directly dominated position through the State Department line, and this is connected to those actions that we observed,” the Prime Minister declared.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze’s assessment, this is an incorrect attitude.

“You remember that they were creating virtual reality in Georgia regarding the American aid through NGOs. With mathematical precision, I included figures in my letter that confirm that we have given more financial concessions to the United States – I mean our participation in military missions – than we have received aid from there. Of course, amounts transferred to NGOs are not counted in aid. The Trump administration also noted that money paid to NGOs was not any kind of aid. Neither the money that was transferred to Georgia to save Saakashvili’s regime after the 2008 war. If we subtract this and take real aid, the figures will be approximately 5 times less than the benefits we gave to the American side through our participation in Afghanistan and Iraq missions alone.

Therefore, arrogance has no basis whatsoever. One also cannot constantly talk about how Georgia would not exist if not for American support. Our country has existed for 3,000 years. Our statehood has existed for 23 centuries – arrogance has no basis whatsoever. The ‘deep state’ is prevailing, we see this. If the ‘deep state’ wants to determine American congratulations, this has no value for us,” the Prime Minister noted.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze’s assessment, this is a system stuck in bureaucracy, and a struggle is ongoing.

“I am convinced that Robin Dunnigan very much wanted to participate in the May 26 event, but she was not given this opportunity precisely due to the influence of the ‘deep state.’ In the statement that was issued, the influence of the ‘deep state’ can be clearly seen and directly felt. This is today’s reality. Such congratulations have no value for us.

As for the Trump administration, I hold hope that the Trump administration will prevail over the ‘deep state.’ This is necessary for Georgian-American relations to be healed,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.
