PM: EU Ambassador's defeat linked to open support for UNM and failure to condemn violence
“The EU Ambassador was defeated in the elections after openly campaigning for the collective ‘National Movement’ against the Georgian Dream and failing to condemn the violent rallies held in Georgia,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Commenting on the EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński’s assertion that “the EU cannot tolerate violence, impunity, and intimidation, which have persisted for three months,” the Prime Minister elaborated.
“The EU Ambassador’s electoral defeat is a direct consequence of his actions. He openly supported the collective ‘National Movement’ in opposition to the Georgian Dream, and notably, he never condemned the violent protests that erupted in Georgia. Consequently, he has become an unfortunate accomplice to the violence, continuing to encourage it, even though his efforts are now in vain.
The Georgian public is well aware of the realities—Georgian society understands the true nature of the ‘peaceful’ protests that occurred from late November to early December, as well as the state’s response to these events. We successfully prevented a wave of violence that had far-reaching ambitions aimed at restoring the collective ‘National Movement’ to power, which the Georgian state firmly rebuffed,” concluded Irakli Kobakhidze.
