PM commends Interior Minister for resolute fight against drug trafficking

“The government will remain unwavering in its stance against drug traffickers,” declared Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during today’s briefing. He commended Interior Minister Gela Geladze for the recent successful special operation, which resulted in the seizure of 300 kilograms of heroin and the arrest of 18 drug traffickers.

The Prime Minister emphasised that Gela Geladze had prioritised the fight against drug-related crimes upon taking office.

“Minister Geladze has been steadfast in fulfilling this mission. In less than two months since his appointment, he has managed to seize an unprecedented 300 kilograms of heroin, and today, 18 individuals involved in drug trafficking were apprehended.

Once again, I would like to thank Minister Gela Geladze, his First Deputy Roni Meskhi, and all police officers involved in this operation, including the Special Tasks Unit, for their professionalism and dedication in planning and executing this raid,” the PM stated.

Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed the government’s commitment.

“We will not tolerate the poisoning of our citizens, especially our youth. The government will continue to implement decisive measures to prevent drug-related crimes. Significant legislative amendments are underway, and I will share further details tomorrow,” the PM concluded.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported today that it has apprehended 18 individuals involved in drug-related offences across Tbilisi and surrounding regions.
