“April 9 is the day when a foreign power perpetrated violence against our fellow citizens,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia.

He noted that April 9 also symbolizes the unity of Georgia, the day love among Georgians triumphed over hatred.

“April 9 is the day when the aspiration for freedom conquered oppression. That is why, now more than ever, we must reject all forms of violence, overcome hatred, and defend the principle of freedom.”

Thirty-six years after the tragedy of April 9, foreign powers continue to inflict violence on Rustaveli Avenue. Even today, on this historic street, a foreign influence stirs up hatred, attempting to undermine the unity of Georgians and combat the ideal of freedom. However, the lessons of April 9 have shown us that the “existence of foreign powers is brief,” and love alongside freedom will ultimately triumph over hatred and oppression,” the statement emphasized.

The Prime Minister added that these foreign forces attempted to incite violence today, and when that failed, they resorted to violence themselves.

“We must not allow hatred to gain further momentum in our country. We will remain vigilant against any provocations, no matter how minor, orchestrated by foreign entities.”

He asserted that this is what the souls of the April 9 heroes, who sacrificed their lives for love and freedom, expect from us.

“Today, we will honour their memory. In Georgia, love and freedom will prevail over hatred and oppression,” concluded the Prime Minister.
