Pesticide and agrochemical prices to face state regulation
Pesticide and agrochemical prices to face state regulation

The prices of pesticides and agrochemicals are to be subject to state regulation. The relevant legislative amendments were presented at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Bureau.

According to the bill, businesses involved in the import, distribution, and retail sale of pesticides and agrochemicals must align their operations with government-set price regulations.

The government explained that the local market for pesticides and agrochemicals has been plagued by price instability.

“According to research into agrochemicals, 75 instances were identified between 2022 and 2025 where the profit margin from the import stage to the retail level exceeded 100%. During the same period, 86 cases were found where pesticide markups from import to retail exceeded 100%. There were also cases where the markup on pesticides and agrochemicals significantly exceeded 100%. Current analysis suggests that these factors could drive artificially high market prices driven by manipulated demand. This, in turn, impacts the productivity and competitiveness of local plant-based agricultural products. Consequently, to ensure a fair market environment, it is deemed necessary to establish a price regulation policy for pesticides and agrochemicals,” the draft bill reads.
