Personal Data Protection Service obtains EDPB activities observer status
The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia obtained the observer status of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) activities, as announced by the Personal Data Protection Service.
During the EDPB’s plenary session on June 20, the EDPB Council made this decision following Rule 8.1 of the RoP. This rule states that, upon receiving a corresponding request, the Council can grant observer status to a non-EU member state’s data protection supervisory authority.
Two conditions must be met: the data protection supervisory authority of the non-member state operates independently, and the non-member state has committed to aligning its national data protection legislation with the European Union regulations as part of its efforts to join the EU.
