People's Power: We often idealised EU and refused to see negatives revealed today by Euro-bureaucracy

“We constantly said that the European Union is a symbol of peace and that Europe is a continent where there are no wars, but for some reason, we didn’t mention what happened, for example, in Serbia just 25 years ago, which was razed to the ground by NATO forces, and we turned a blind eye to the reasons for this. Not to mention the First and Second World Wars, which were started in Europe by European states themselves,” Parliament’s Vice-Speaker and Chairman of the People’s Power party, Sozar Subari, has stated.

According to Subari, “we ourselves idealised the European Union and turned a blind eye to negative events and facts.”

“Europe and the European Union no longer resemble themselves; they have strayed very far from the values upon which the EU was created and founded. However, we must also admit to ourselves that we idealised everything connected with the European Union and often didn’t want to see the negatives, which today’s Euro-bureaucracy has clearly revealed to us through its unjust decisions and double standards.

We idealised them and tried to close our eyes to what wasn’t right. Of course, the European Union isn’t ideal, just as no union or state can ever be. We often said that the European Union is a symbol of peace, and that Europe is a continent where there are no wars. Yet, both the First and Second World Wars also began in Europe, initiated by European states themselves. Let’s consider that as the distant past, but for some reason, we tend to forget what happened, for example, in Serbia, which was razed to the ground by NATO forces.

What was happening in Serbia and generally on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, ethnic conflicts and ethnic cleansing, mass murders of peaceful people and more, this was unacceptable, but the Serbs weren’t the only guilty party, whilst the Western media covered these tragedies and examples of violence in a very biased manner. By doing this, they quite deliberately created public opinion to prepare Western public opinion for NATO’s bombing of Serbia and the unjustified invasion of the country.

We often say that Europe is a continent of peace, yet for some reason, we turn a blind eye to the fact that just fourteen years ago, European states, together with the United States, bombed and destroyed Libya. They justified these actions by claiming that Libya’s leader, Muammar Gaddafi, was a dictator. However, before that, the majority of European leaders regarded Gaddafi as a close personal friend and eagerly accepted expensive gifts from him, along with generous donations to fund election campaigns. One day, when the interests of European leaders and Gaddafi diverged, Europeans suddenly remembered that Gaddafi was a dictator, and Libya was reduced to ruins.

Since then, civil wars and bloodshed haven’t ceased in Libya; in what was once a unitary country where the standard of living was quite high, the economy has been destroyed, the tribes living there are locked in mortal combat with each other, and there’s no end in sight to this misery.

Since 2011, the bombings and civil war have claimed several tens of thousands of lives, up to half a million people have become refugees, but neither the Euro-bureaucrats, nor European leaders, nor the Western media remember this or care about it. Instead, they proudly declare to us that Europe is a continent of peace, and the European Union is a peace project and outpost,” Sozar Subari stated.
