People’s Power criticizes EU Ambassador for unfair attitude toward Georgia

“Paweł Herczyński stands out with an unfair attitude and ungrounded criticism. He says that Georgia is not among the countries which pursue the European Union integration path, which is not true,” said Eka Sepashvili, International Relations Secretary of the People’s Power party.

According to Eka Sepashvili, the EU integration process has not been suspended for even one day, and Georgia fulfils the Association Agreement’s commitments.

“Georgia is committed to fulfilling the Association Agreement taken commitments on a daily basis. This is EU integration rather than making decisions, which foremostly contradict the country’s interests and EU fundamental principles. Here, I mean the Law on Transparency and the EU’s efforts directed against the values we enshrined in the law on family values,” she said.

Sepashvili believes that if anyone violates democracy principles and if democratic backsliding is observed anywhere is the European Union, which stopped political dialogue with Georgia in June of 2024.

“This is precisely a step backwards in terms of democracy. It appears that EU leaders do not wish to hear the arguments voiced by Georgia at an official level, arguments they cannot simply ignore,” she said.

“Countries that share common rules advance on the EU integration path; Regretfully, Georgia is not among them,” said EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczynski in his speech delivered on the occasion of Europe Day in Batumi.
