Tbilisi’s Municipal Inspectorate is continuing intensive monitoring and enforcement to stop illegal street trading and unauthorised structures in public spaces, including around metro stations, Tbilisi City Hall said in a statement.

According to the statement, during a special operation near Marjanishvili metro station, the Inspectorate dismantled unauthorised structures used for street trading and fully cleared the area.

“Despite repeated warnings from Inspectorate officials, the traders failed to comply with lawful requirements and wilfully continued their illegal activity in public space. Illegal street trading and unauthorised structures disfigure the city’s appearance, restrict people’s movement, create unsanitary conditions and cause public discontent. The Municipal Inspectorate has warned that illegal street trading and public space obstructions will be met with firm action, urging the public to follow the law. In every such case, the measures provided for by law will be taken,” the statement said.
