Penitentiary Service urges against false reporting, claims Mzia Amaglobeli consented to hospitalization
The Special Penitentiary Service has issued a statement regarding the transfer of hunger-striking journalist Mzia Amaglobeli to the Vivamed clinic.
The Service echoed the report by certain media outlets regarding the transfer of the accused Mzia Amaglobeli to the Vivamed clinic.
“We would like to clarify that this hospitalization for medical research related to her medical history took place with her full consent.”
“After being admitted to the clinic, Amaglobeli “further consented to the research and procedures recommended by the medical specialists of the Special Penitentiary Service,” the statement continued.
Mzia Amaghlobeli remains at the clinic for additional laboratory and instrumental studies.
The Penitentiary Service emphasized that “the rights defender of the accused was informed about the need for his referral, ensuring that all necessary procedures were followed.”
The Service “called on individual political groups and media outlets to refrain from spreading deliberately false information that contradicts the cited facts.” Mzia Amaglobeli, founder and director of the media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti, has been on a hunger strike for over three weeks at Rustavi Prison. The Batumi City Court ordered her imprisonment as a preventive measure on January 14, following her arrest on January 12 under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the assault of a police officer.
