Penalties introduced for violating state pesticide and agrochemical price controls

Penalties are to be introduced for breaching the rules and conditions of state regulation on pesticide and agrochemical prices. The relevant amendments were presented at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Bureau.

The amendments introduce state price controls on pesticides and agrochemicals alongside a new system of fines.

Specifically, under the draft bill, a first violation of the state price regulation rules will result in a formal warning for the business operator. A second offence will incur a fine of 5,000 GEL.

The bill further specifies that a third or subsequent violation within 12 months of the first offence will lead to a fine of 30,000 GEL.

The government explained that these changes will reduce instances of arbitrary price hikes and unfair pricing practices for pesticides and agrochemicals, thereby protecting the economic interests of farmers and end consumers.
