Parliamentary mandate termination has legal and political dimensions, Parliament Speaker says

The parliamentary mandate termination to several MPs has legal and political dimensions, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated at the bureau sitting.

Papuashvili claimed that unlike discussions held last spring over the same issue, everybody agreed that the parliament could not make any other decision.

“When there is no recognition of the system or the state, and there is a court indictment, all arguments are in place,” Papuashvili said.

Georgian parliament terminated parliamentary mandates to three opposition lawmakers, Elene Khoshtaria (Droa leader), Shalva Natelashvili (Labor Party leader) and Badri Japaridze (Lelo leader), on February 15.

The court indictment served as the reason in Badri Japaridze’s case, while Elene Khoshtaria and Shalva Natelashvili were accused of nonattendance to sittings.
