Parliamentary Culture Committee supports GPB 2025 annual report

The Parliamentary Culture Committee reviewed and supported the 2025 annual report of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB).

The Chairman of the GPB Board of Trustees, Vasil Maghlaperidze, presented the document to the lawmakers.

He highlighted large-scale projects, including high-level hosting of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and full functioning of the GPB’s new building.

According to Vasil Maghlaperidze, in connection with the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion, a series of programs will be broadcast on First Channel and an important project will be launched to promote protected areas and a healthy lifestyle.

At the Culture Committee meeting, Maghlaperidze explained the reasons why the GPB will not live broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026, which runs from 11 June 2026 to 19 July.

Following the presentation of the report, the committee meeting continued in Q&A format. The MPs were mainly interested in the cultural and educational projects of the Public Broadcaster, digitalization of the archive, and the ratings of First Channel, taking into account the broadcaster’s funding.
