Parliament Vice-Speaker: Functioning parliament to pull country out of crisis
“A decision on terminating the mandates of the Alliance of Patriots bears the political pretext,” the Georgian Parliament Vice-Speaker Davit Sergeenko said on Monday.
According to Sergeenko, the parliament stands as the decision-maker amid the opposition boycott.
Vice-Speaker also echoed the opposition’s plans to hold the protest rallies. Sergeenko believes protesting is a constitutional right, but the goal is crucial.
“Does it aim to gain power or advance the country? The fully functioning parliament is paramount to pull the country out of the crisis under the present circumstances,” Sergeenko stressed.
The Georgian Parliament of 10th Convocation kicked off a discussion on termination of opposition mandated on Monday.
The MPs have already approved the request of some members of the Alliance of Patriots.
Georgian opposition parties believe the 2020 parliamentary elections were a fraud.
