Parliament supports three Supreme Court judge nominees

All three candidates nominated by the Supreme Council of Justice for election as Supreme Court judges were supported during the plenary session of the Georgian Parliament. Gizo Ubilava received the support of 80 MPs and will commence his term immediately.

Badri Shonia and Gocha Jeiranashvili garnered support from 78 MPs each. Their mandates will begin on October 18.

The decision to vote on the judicial candidates without discussion during the session was reached at the Legal Affairs Committee meeting, where the candidates were heard on June 20.

Initially, the position of Supreme Court judge will be held by the candidate elected first in alphabetical order. Subsequently, the other candidates will assume their roles as Supreme Court judges on October 18, 2024, following the vacancy in the court.
