Parliament supports bill to abolish temporary administrative-territorial unit administration in former South Ossetian Autonomous Region

The Georgian parliament, with the third reading and unanimously with 83 votes, endorsed declaring as invalid the draft laws “On the creation of appropriate conditions for the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region” and “On property restitution and compensation for victims of the conflict in the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region on the territory of Georgia.”

Based on the draft, the temporary administrative-territorial unit administration in the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region will be abolished from January 1, 2026.

Employees of the temporary administrative-territorial unit administration will receive compensation equivalent to three months’ wages.

The authors and initiators of the draft bill are Giorgi Volski, Irakli Kirtskhalia, Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Alud Ghudushauri, Davit Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze and Tornike Cheishvili.
