Parliament Speaker says fact-finding commission’s conclusion, detailing UNM regime's crimes, has been translated into English

“The conclusion of the Interim Fact-Finding Commission of the Parliament, studying the activities since 2003 of the regime in power during 2003–2012, its political officeholders, and current and former officials affiliated with political parties, has been translated into English,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated at the plenary session.

“The document, which exceeds 300 pages, describes crimes committed under the United National Movement regime. It outlines how a system of torture was created and operated, how killings were carried out by state representatives, how businesses were subjected to racketeering, how media outlets were seized, and what crimes were committed against Georgia’s territorial integrity during the period of the regime’s rule,” Shalva Papuashvili has said.

Speaking at the plenary session, Shalva Papuashvili stated that the document, the English translation of which has been prepared and published, provides a detailed account of each political and criminal offence.

“This document will be delivered to all embassies and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia so that, through the embassies, it reaches all relevant actors, including those who to this day remain supporters abroad of the ‘National Movement’ regime of that period. To this day, the European People’s Party has yet to expel the United National Movement from its ranks, nor have other associations divested their affiliated entities.

Even today, the chief organiser, architect, and ideologue of these crimes, Mikheil Saakashvili, is applauded by certain foreign actors, thereby casting a shadow first and foremost on European values and the West.

This document will reach all relevant individuals and research organisations so that, based on the evidence presented, everyone is aware of the nature of the dictatorial regime that existed in Georgia before 2012 and whose reincarnation, as we see, is now being attempted by the very individuals who created that regime”, Shalva Papuashvili stated.
