Parliament Speaker on opposition infighting: Good fruit cannot spring from a poisonous seed

“Good fruit cannot spring from a poisonous seed, and that fruit is precisely what we are witnessing today within the radical opposition,” declared the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, in response to questions regarding the ongoing rift in opposition ranks, specifically the mutual recriminations between Ahali’s Nika Gvaramia and UNM’s Ana Tsitlidze.

The Speaker noted that the Georgian electorate, including the opposition’s own supporters, has turned their backs on them.

“If everyone was allegedly bought off, perhaps they could clarify who it was that actually suffered defeat in the 2024 elections? A very positive process is taking place, and we fully welcome it. Good fruit cannot spring from a poisonous seed, and that fruit is precisely what we are seeing today.

Now that the radical opposition is in total frustration, they can no longer secure external funding, nor can they command the political backing they previously enjoyed. The Georgian people have turned their backs on them, including their own supporters. This is a direct byproduct of frustration, revealing their true character.

People of Georgia, look closely at what we are seeing now: this is the group that labels itself ‘pro-European’. This is what Europe looks like in their imagination; what you are observing right now. This filth is the very ‘Europe’ these people are offering us,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
