Parliament Speaker: New Year 2026 approaches; we meet it with great hope, clear plans and fresh energy

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, wishes citizens a Happy New Year. As stated in the Speaker’s message, they are approaching the year 2026 with hope, clear plans, and renewed energy. According to him, this will be a year that marks a new beginning.

“Dear compatriots, fellow citizens living abroad, and our Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters, the year 2025, filled with challenges and opposition, has ended; a year that proved to be both historic and exceptional. This was a year that clearly defined Georgia’s national choice and priorities.

Over the past twelve months, our country faced decisive pressure aimed at restricting Georgia’s sovereign rights, influencing the will of the Georgian people, and subordinating us to the plans of others.

2025 was the year when Georgia firmly refused to participate in others’ scenarios and to gamble with the country’s future. Together, we all defended this choice and demonstrated solid unity. Together, we all restored the concept of national interest to the political and public sphere as the principal foundation for state action.

A new year, 2026, is dawning. We meet it with great hope, clear plans and fresh energy. This will be a year that becomes a new starting point.

This year, we must begin a new stage of construction gradually, calmly, and thoughtfully. This construction must be rooted in our historical heritage whilst clearly articulating a modern, contemporary national identity.

The world must clearly understand who we are, where we stand, what motivates us, what we defend and what we are building. Everyone must know what we were yesterday, what we are today and what we shall be tomorrow.

On this path, we are guided by the wisdom and knowledge left by our forebears, a heritage filled with love of homeland and care for it.

This is precisely why we are not afraid to make any decision that serves Georgia’s vital interests.
In the service of these interests, we stand together, old and young, women and men, laity and clergy.

In 2026, Georgia will commemorate a special milestone, the 1,700th anniversary of its Christianisation. This event highlights once again our historical continuity, spiritual heritage, and civilisational significance.

This is precisely why I congratulate you on the arrival of the New Year 2026 from Bodbe Monastery.
May Saint Nino bless all of Georgia and protect our parents and children!

Let us be and live in unity, for strength lies in unity!” the message reads.
