The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan.
According to the Georgian Parliament, Papuashvili welcomed the opportunity to host the Armenian President in the Parliament for the second time and noted that the meeting took place against the backdrop of intensifying bilateral relations and positive dynamics in the South Caucasus region.
The sides highlighted the increasing frequency of high- and top-level visits, which they said reflects the traditional friendship between Georgia and Armenia.
“Shalva Papuashvili stated that in a changing world, where the rules-based international order faces numerous challenges, Georgia and Armenia continue to support each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The meeting highlighted the productive parliamentary relations between the two countries, both at the level of parliamentary chairmen and through cooperation between committees and friendship groups.
The President of Armenia noted that in a changing global environment, amid pressure from external forces, countries must be able to safeguard their national interests and use the current situation to achieve positive outcomes. He emphasized the importance of passing the strong friendship between Georgia and Armenia on to future generations.
Both sides stressed that the two nations understand the true value of peace and therefore bear a special responsibility to preserve it. The meeting addressed the current regional landscape, underscoring the importance of initialling peace agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the positive dynamics in relations between Armenia and Turkey.
The parties expressed a shared view that a South Caucasus region in which all three countries are united and maintain close ties would be highly attractive and create significant economic opportunities. It was noted that political stability will serve as the foundation for economic growth. The discussion also touched on the importance of trilateral cooperation formats.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the relations of Georgia and Armenia with the European Union and emphasized the strategic significance of the Middle Corridor in enhancing regional connectivity,” the Parliament’s press service stated.
