Parliament Speaker – I am sure that together with Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters, we will work on Constitutional law related to restoration of territorial integrity
The new edition of Constitution is a visit card of our country in a civilized world – Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze said during a reception at Presidential Palace on the occasion of Constitution Day.
Talakvadze said the first constitution adopted in 1921 was grounded on progressive principles and European values, and that the parliament of the 9th convocation fulfilled the historic mission successfully.
“The new edition of Constitution is a refined legal document, which represents a strong basis for the long-term democratic development of the Georgian state,” Talakvadze said.
Parliament Speaker said that Constitution of Georgia was introducing the highest standards of human rights and was making the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic choice irreversible.
“It is important that the spirit of regulations directly coincides with the main strategic goal – peaceful de-occupation and restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity. I am sure that together with Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters, we will soon be working on a Constitutional law related to the restoration of territorial integrity,” Talakvadze said.
Constitution Day is marked on August 24 in Georgia. On this day in 1995, the country officials signed the Constitution – the country’s basis of law. The Constitution is the supreme law of Georgia and the country’s main document that outlines all laws.
