Parliament Speaker holds talks with Chairman of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress

The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with Zhao Yide, the Secretary of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress.

Shalva Papuashvili highlighted the significance of the meeting with Shaanxi’s leadership and underscored the province’s historical and economic importance. He noted that Shaanxi seamlessly combines ancient civilisation with modern technology.

“The parties expressed a positive outlook on the relations between Georgia and China, which have evolved into a strategic partnership. They emphasised that bilateral cooperation is expanding across many sectors.

Local and regional cooperation complements broader interstate relations and leads to tangible, practical results. Additionally, the meeting highlighted that the city twinning process between Georgia and China is currently being revitalised,” the Georgian Parliament’s press service stated.

The parties expressed their willingness to deepen institutional ties and discussed collaboration in the fields of culture and education. According to Shalva Papuashvili, Shaanxi’s rich historical and cultural heritage provides a vital foundation for cultural diplomacy.

On the topics of transport and logistics, the discussions centred around the potential for further utilisation of transit routes, particularly the Middle Corridor.

The meeting took place as part of Shalva Papuashvili’s official visit to the People’s Republic of China.

The Georgian delegation, led by the Chairman of the Parliament, also included: First Deputy Chairman Giorgi Volski, head of the Georgia-China Parliamentary Friendship Group; Deputy Chairpersons Nino Tsilosani and Sozar Subari; Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Nikoloz Samkharadze; and Agriculture Committee Chairman Gela Samkharauli.
