Parliament Speaker: EC’s report on Ukraine and Moldova exposes Brussels’ utter hypocrisy
“The European Commission’s report reveals the absolute hypocrisy of Brussels,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told journalists.
Papuashvili responded to a question about reports that the European Commission had omitted assessments of corruption and human rights from its enlargement evaluation of Ukraine and Moldova.
“The report covers all countries with visa-free travel, more than sixty in total. Issues of corruption and human rights are addressed separately. These topics apply universally, yet for some reason, they were specifically omitted in the cases of Ukraine and Moldova, where these issues are particularly pronounced.
Let us recall the corruption scandals in Ukraine, where high-ranking officials in the presidential administration were involved in corruption. These facts were not uncovered through internal investigations, but through external interference, with foreign agencies involved in searches and inquiries. As a result, Ukraine no longer questions whom they will support, whom they won’t, or which cases they will pursue. Everyone is well aware of Moldova’s position in these corruption ratings.
Regarding human rights, both countries have shut down television stations that they dislike. Today, pro-Europeanism seems to mean that if you want to eliminate someone, you label them Russian and then proceed to silence or kill them. These are European values today,” said Papuashvili.
