Parliament Speaker – During meetings in Washington, I was convinced that parties of low rating are conducting campaigning in U.S. to inflict harm to the image of our political environment
Georgia has strong support and trust of the U.S. which is optimistic that we continue strengthening of democracy, development of economy and we remain one of the main allies in security sphere – Archil Talakvadze, Parliament Speaker said when wrapping up his visit in Washington.
According to Talakvadze, he held more than 20 meetings in the U.S. Congress and Senate including with those Congressmen who were the authors of the latest critical letters addressed to the Georgian authorities. Talakvadze said that he had introduced American politicians with the visions and future plans of the Georgian ruling team.
Talakvadze told journalists that topics of discussions were the foreign policy, forthcoming parliamentary elections and the election system. He said that the compromised version of 100/50 suggested to the opposition was the fair one and if the agreement was not reached over the model, the parliament would not have much time left to make amendments to the Constitution. Therefore, the opposition had time only till the end of February to give a pragmatic answer regarding the proposal.
As Talakvadze said, one part of the oppositional parties had low support of people and they were trying to find lobbyists in the U.S. “During the meetings in Washington, I was convinced that parties of low rating are conducting campaigning in the U.S. to inflict harm to the image of our political environment,” Talakvadze said.
According to the Parliament Speaker, all parties should work with their voters, lead the campaigning and show that their willingness to hold fair elections is honest.
