The Georgian Parliament administration made a statement regarding the salary payments to opposition MPs.
“We would like to inform you that the law and internal procedures regulate the issue of wages for the members of parliament. We requested the parliament staff to provide their bank details for remuneration after the Parliament of the 10th Convocation convened. Otherwise, the payroll operation would have been impossible.
Referring to MPs, who held a mandate in the previous parliament, we would like to inform you that their bank details were on the list, and wages were automatically paid following the rules and procedures”, the statement reads.
The parliament administration reminded that it has a mechanism that allows the parliament member to refuse the salary. The member of the parliament needs to apply to a relevant department.
A member of the United National Movement-Power in Unity, Nato Chkheidze, posted on Facebook earlier today. She was paid her MP salary in full despite the ruling Georgian Dream party plans to suspend wages and state funding for the opposition parties, which miss the plenary sessions. “I have been thinking about what to do with this devilish sum,” an opposition MP wrote.
