Papuashvili: No foreign officials, Brussels bureaucrat, condemned or distanced from violence

“Neither during the preparation of the crime, nor during its course, nor after, not a single foreigner, not a single Brussels bureaucrat, nor an official from an individual country, not even distanced oneself from violence and crime, let alone condemned it,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said at a briefing.

According to Papuashvili, only slogans supporting the crime, empty statements about democracy and freedom were heard—phrases that appeared even more cynical in light of the mass crime the world witnessed live.

“We observed coordinated information support for the coup attempt, with well-known public figures publishing similar texts about Georgia,” he noted.

Papuashvili also highlighted the existence of a group with malicious interests toward Georgia, seeking to destabilize the country and use it as a pawn.

“It appears that some texts were prepared in advance, released at a specific moment to incite external pressure, akin to a Maidan. We continue to see the same figures who have been undermining our country for years—especially over the past three years—constantly attempting to destabilize the situation,” he said.

He stressed that Georgian society has long removed its rose-colored glasses and now clearly recognizes the nature of these individuals’ false support.

“They have no empathy, sympathy, or genuine interest in the peaceful development of our country. All their talk of freedom and democracy is empty. In reality, it conceals coldly calculated political and geopolitical interests targeting Georgia as a territory and Georgians as a people.

Yesterday not only revealed many truths but also made them irrefutably clear. Questions I raised before—perhaps seeking answers—were answered yesterday, both by the radicals inside the country and their external supporters. The conclusion is undeniable: there is a group acting against Georgia’s interests, trying to disrupt our country and use it as a pawn,” Papuashvili concluded.
