Papuashvili: Every witness in Jorbenadze case admitted they were merely peddling gossip when serious questions were raised

“Everyone who provided testimony regarding the Lazare Jorbenadze case simply intended to agitate the public with gossip and fabricate conspiracy theories,” declared the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.

The Parliamentary Speaker noted that as soon as rigorous questions were asked about the case, every single witness conceded they had seen no evidence whatsoever and that their claims were nothing more than idle rumour-mongering.

“I wish to highlight once again the legal issues that require formal legal answers. That remains my position and core comment on the matter. The publication Asaval-Dasavali is a phenomenon in its own right, particularly regarding the issue of suicide. It exposes the moral bankruptcy of such media when they turn an individual’s delusions into a weapon of propaganda.

Today, people come forward, including, I believe, the editor of Asaval-Dasavali, and admit they saw no evidence. Yet they come forward and level accusations against individuals or the government in the name of a deceased person. This entire episode has demonstrated all too clearly how media can operate. It can package utter delusion to get the public talking and convince people, even whilst knowing full well, in the most cynical manner, that it is pure nonsense.

When push came to shove, and serious questions were put to them, they admitted that they are gossips. Every individual who testified, whether politician or journalist, acknowledged, ‘We are gossips and were just gossiping amongst ourselves.’ They want to agitate people with this chatter and weave conspiracy theories. This serves as a vital lesson that the media can be a ruthless weapon used to present sheer delusions to the public as absolute truth,” Papuashvili stated.
