Papuashvili calls to reclaim traditional Georgian political culture and reject “externally imposed hatred”

“Profanity, verbal assaults, and insults are actively stifling social and political debate. Georgian society must dismantle these artificial, externally constructed barriers and return to its inherent culture of meaningful discourse,” Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has stated.

According to the Speaker, hate speech and verbal hostility are methods that have been systematically financed and imposed from abroad.

“Our primary objective is to see our society and political life return to the roots of Georgian political culture, ensuring that this externally imposed hatred is drastically curtailed. The goal is to allow citizens the opportunity to engage in sound social and political debate.

Verbal abuse, profanity, and insults obstruct public and political discussion, blocking any chance of constructive dialogue. Therefore, Georgian society needs to rid itself of this externally manufactured hurdle and return to the respectful culture of debate that truly characterises us.

We have seen exactly who opposes this path: foreign-funded NGOs and foreign political agents in Georgia, who are now threatening legal action. This only highlights who was responsible for introducing this crude, insult-driven vitriol into Georgia in the first place. These confrontational approaches are entirely financed and imposed from the outside, and it is imperative that we cast them aside,” Papuashvili said.
