Opposition remarks on alternative implementation of 12-point EC recommendations

The leadership of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party impedes the development of Georgia and stirs up hatred in the society, said Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of the Lelo party. Khazaradze said that in order to avoid the impression that the opposition is distancing itself from the European Commission’s 12-point recommendations, the opposition parties are preparing their own drafts. “The ruling team is trying to split the society and thus keep the power,” Khazaradze said.

A member of the United National Movement (UNM) party, Khatia Dekanoidze, said that speculation about the “parallel process” is not true and the process, which the Parliament Speaker presumably had in mind, was the discussion of the legislative initiatives with the civic society.

Kakhaber Kemoklidze, For Georgia party member, believes that the opposition is committing a strategic mistake by leading a parallel process since the Georgian Dream will not accept the initiatives in which it did not participate.

Vice-Speaker and a member of the Citizens party, Levan Ioseliani, said the alternative process harms the fulfilment of the 12-point priorities. He urged the opposition to join the working groups, which were established in line with the regulations and do not represent “a separate format to speak to the GD.”

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said at a Tuesday briefing that after the failed “technical government” project, the radical opposition is concentrating on the “technical parliament,” which is an attempt to delegitimize the elected legislature and is a dangerous game against the constitutional order.
