Giorgi Rurua, one of the founders of the “Main Channel” TV Company was imposed imprisonment upon the decision of Roman Khorava, Judge of Tbilisi City Court. The decision was followed by shoutings in sign of denunciation and public condemnation by those sitting in the court hall or waiting for the ruling outside the court building.
The Prosecutor’s Office demanded imprisonment to Rurua and claimed that there was a threat that he would attempt to prevent the investigation from search of new evidence into his case.
Lawyers claimed that the confiscated gun, figuring as the evidence, was put into Rurua’s pocket by law enforcers, while the detainees DNA sample was obtained forcibly. The defense side argued that the charges were absurd.
Giorgi Rurua was detained on November 18 during the protest rally at parliament building. The next trial is scheduled for January 9.
