“Our regional leaders, and by that, I mean those from the South Caucasus and Turkey, will travel to Iran and attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei together. I see absolutely nothing unusual in this,” declared Georgian Dream member, MP Zviad Shalamberidze.

Shalamberidze pointed out that even the United States engages in diplomatic talks with the Iranian authorities.

“The United States conducts negotiations with the Iranian government. For us, what matters most is our own national interests and the neutral stance that Georgia has consistently maintained throughout the US-Iran conflict. Consequently, the leaders of our region, meaning the South Caucasus and Turkey, will travel to this ceremony and attend it together. I see nothing strange about it whatsoever,” Shalamberidze stated.

For context, the Administration of the President of Georgia has confirmed that President Mikheil Kavelashvili will travel to Iran to attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The administration further noted that the ceremony will be attended by leaders from across the region, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other nations.
